Hints for starting Preschool
Over many years our staff has been involved in settling children happily into the preschool environment. This process also requires the undivided support of parents. Working together will ensure a smooth start to your child’s formal education.
Some of the following ideas may help your child to settle in to preschool:
What to bring
Please label all belongings with your child’s name. Please pack in a bag that is able to be hung.
- Spare clothes- children may get wet during water play
- Drink bottle containing WATER
- 2 pieces of Fresh Fruit or Vegetables for “Munch & Sip’, (placed in a separate container from your child’s lunch box) ready for them to collect at morning tea as children are hungry after a busy morning. We ask that you include an additional fruit or vegetable for afternoon tea if you feel that your child will require it.
- Lunch - a healthy packed lunch in a named lunch box. Lunches are placed into the fridge upon arrival, so insulated bags are not necessary.
We ask that you provide your child their own sunscreen labelled clearly with their name. Please apply sunscreen before attending preschool or upon arrival.
Play clothes suitable for messy activities such as play and painting should be worn. Clothing that follows the sun safe guidelines, that is, it protects their shoulders and neck form the sun. Long dresses and skirts are dangerous for climbing.
Hats – these should be broad rimmed, bucket or legionnaire style to ensure the whole face and neck are covered. Caps are not appropriate.
Howlong Preschool t-shirts, hats and hoodies are available for purchase from the office.
