Miss Jo
Bachelor of Education
My name is Jo, I am an Early Childhood Teacher. I studied my undergraduate degree at Macquarie University in Sydney and am currently undertaking my Masters of Education specialising in applied behaviour analysis through Monash University.
I am very passionate about teaching children life skills. I believe that skills such as resilience, persistence, determination conflict resolution and problem solving need to be taught explicitly. Through my Masters education I am learning new strategies to support the development of positive behaviours. I, also, place a strong emphasis on teaching children to think in positive ways. Early childhood is the most important time for develop positive thinking and wellbeing skills. For this reason, I have taken on the responsibility of coordinating our preschools “Positive Living Skills” program. This incorporates the teaching of skills such as relaxation, emotional awareness, focus, cooperation, positive thinking and self esteem. I strongly believe that the first 5 years are the most important for developing the skills that will in form the adult a child will become. Role modelling is the most important teaching skills and I make an effort to practice what I preach, teaching with compassion, understanding and kindness, supporting children to develop new skills and ensuring that the skills I teach are functional and reinforcing for the children. |
